An Inconvenient Truth: The History Behind Sioux San Lands and West Rapid City

  • Ramkota Hotel - Washington Room 2111 North Lacrosse Street Rapid City, SD, 57701 United States (map)

Please join us for the second public presentation of this history--added due to interest from the public.

Rapid City continues to struggle with it’s relationship between Native and non-Native communities. One of the reasons is a lack of understanding about the recent history of the Rapid City Boarding School and it’s lands. These lands run from Mountain View Road on the east to Canyon Lake Park, including Stevens High School, West Middle School, Canyon Lake Elementary School, Sioux Park, the National Guard range, churches and housing. Read more about the history here.

That history continues to shape the present for many in the community. This project will fundamentaly reshape the way Rapid City residents understand each other, and provide a platform of truth to begin some healing.

Presented by Heather Dawn Thompson and Kibbe Conti.

Sponsored by the Mniluzahan Okolakiciyapi Ambassadors in partnership with the Mayor of Rapid City.
